Programme notes: additional text

The term "Trocadero" refers to:

* a Spanish island in the Bay of Cadiz, off Puerte Real, which belongs to the Parque Natural de la Bahia de Cadiz,
* a battle during the French invasion of Spain (1822/23) in which the French army captured the fortifications of the above-mentioned Isla del Trocadero (actually the Fuerte Luis) on 31 August 1823,

In memory of this military achievement, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, on Chaillot Hill, the Trocadéro was named:
* in 1877, the square already laid out in 1869 (originally just "Place du Trocadéro"), now Place du Trocadéro et du 11 Novembre,
* in 1878, the Palais du Trocadéro, opened in the same year for the Universal Exhibition and replaced by the Palais de Chaillot for the 1937 Universal Exhibition,
* also in 1878, the Jardins du Trocadéro green space with its underground "Aquarium du Trocadéro",
* at the beginning of the 20th century, the Métro station "Trocadéro" at the "Place du Trocadéro et du 11 Novembre" (Métro lines 6 and 9).
