Programme notes: additional text

At the age of 43 Johann Schrammel died of kidney inflammation in his house at Rötzergasse 13 in Vienna-Hernals. He was buried in an honorary grave at the Hernalser cemetery. Among his most famous compositions are "Wien bleibt Wien" (March), "'s Herz von an echten Weana" (Waltz Song), "Mir san in Wien a Herz, a Sinn", "Weana Gmüat" (Waltz), "Der Nachwuchs" and "Nur aussa mit die tiafn Tön'". In 1888 he published the musical work "Alte österreichische Volksmelodien bis 1860". The march "Wien bleibt Wien" was printed by many European publishers and is still very popular today, perhaps also because of the derisive texts.
