Programme notes: "Rising Sun" (Aufgehende Sonne) is a metaphor for sunrise, when the sun rises on the horizon and fills the sky with warm colours and light. The metaphor of the rising sun is often used to symbolise hope, renewal and the beginning of a new day or era. The rising sun has different meanings in different cultures and religions. In Japanese culture, for example, the rising sun is used as a symbol of good luck, health and peace. The flag of Japan shows a red rising sun on a white background, representing the country and its people. In many spiritual teachings, the rising sun is also used as a symbol of enlightenment or the awakening of the spirit. It can symbolise that a new consciousness or understanding is rising and a new spiritual journey is beginning. In literature, the metaphor of the rising sun is often used to symbolise a turn for the good or the better in a story or in a person. It can also be used to convey a positive vision of the future or an optimistic outlook on the world. Overall, the rising sun as a metaphor stands for a new hope, a new beginning and the prospect of a better future.
