Programme notes: additional text

The Polka Mazurka "Ice Flower" is a well-known work by the Austrian composer Eduard Strauss (1835-1916). Eduard Strauss came from the famous Strauss dynasty, which is known for its significant contributions to Viennese waltz and light music. The Polka Mazur "Eisblume" is one of the many works that Eduard Strauss composed and conducted during his career. Eduard Strauss was the third son of Johann Strauss father and the younger brother of Johann Strauss son (also known as the "Waltz King"). The Strauss family had a major influence on 19th century musical life in Vienna with their rousing waltzes, polkas and other dance music.

The polka Mazur "Ice Flower" is a characteristic example of the dance music that made the Strauss family famous. Mazurkas are a dance genre that originated in Polish folklore and were often integrated by the Strauss composers into their works. The polka mazur "Ice Flower" is characterised by its lively rhythms, catchy melodies and typical danceability. The title "Ice Flower" gives the Polka Mazur a certain atmospheric quality. The word "ice flower" can be associated with wintry cold, elegance and also fragile beauty. The works of the Strauss dynasty, including pieces composed by Eduard Strauss, were extremely popular in their day and are still performed in concerts and ballrooms. The Polka Mazur "Ice Flower" has undoubtedly helped to continue the rich musical heritage of the Strauss family and to thrill audiences with its rousing character.
