Programme notes: It begins with a lively "Vivace" full of fire and colour, which is driven forward above all by the woodwinds, but also demands considerable agility from the brass. The alternating rhythms demand particular precision. The Moderato (from number 6) with dreamy sound figures from the flute and clarinet brings a brief pause, which continues atmospherically in the orchestra. The final section captivates with melodic and rhythmic variety in brilliant orchestration and in a storming Vivace that demands a lot from the orchestra. Precisely because of the rapid tempi and the rhythmic subtleties, an upper-level orchestra is probably required to do justice to the work. Here we have folkloristically influenced symphonic wind music with special expressiveness, which makes certain demands on the orchestra and the audience, but which can also become a special programme item at a high-level concert.
