Programme notes: Every year, the autumn season in Merano delights with its magnificent play of colours. The leaves of the trees shining in bright red and yellow hues make the green spaces of the city a real eye-catcher. The taste of roasted chestnuts has always been part of autumn in Merano. Hearty food in convivial company and a rustic setting makes "Törggelen" a popular autumn tradition among locals and guests alike. This period of the year also includes several highlights of Merano's events. Most of these events are part of the series "Merano Autumn" and/or the "Autumn Delights", which also includes the neighbouring villages. A real event is the Merano Grape Festival, which takes place every year on the third weekend in October. First held in 1886, this harvest festival offers a harmonious mix of traditional performances, autumnal South Tyrolean specialities, good wine and lots of music. The highlight is the parade through the centre of Merano on Sunday, in which elaborately decorated floats and numerous music bands take part.
