Programme notes: additional text

Hungarian dances in music have a long and rich tradition dating back to the 19th century. These dances were influenced by the folkloric elements of Hungarian music and quickly gained great popularity both in Hungary and abroad. Known for their lively rhythms, their stirring melodies and their spirited character, the Hungarian Dances have found a permanent place in the repertoire of many composers.

One of the most famous representatives of Hungarian dances is the German composer Johannes Brahms, who composed a series of 21 Hungarian dances. These dances, inspired by Hungarian folk music, became a great success and remain popular pieces in the classical repertoire today.

Another notable composition dedicated to Hungarian dances is "Hungarian Dance", op. 161b, by Franz Hoffmann. This composition is an adaptation of the original composition by Johannes Brahms for wind orchestra and was arranged by Hans Kliment.

Hans Kliment has skillfully transferred the lively and stirring qualities of the Hungarian Dances into his arrangement, giving them a fresh, dynamic sound suitable for wind orchestras. The characteristic rhythms, melodic phrasing and spirited passages of the original are lovingly preserved and adapted for the wind orchestra's diverse sound palette.

In "Hungarian Dance", op. 161b, the listeners experience a thrilling musical journey through Hungarian folk music. The lively sounds of the wind instruments, supported by the rhythmic elements of the percussion instruments, perfectly capture the energy and fire of the Hungarian dances.

This arrangement by Hans Kliment opens new horizons for the performance of Hungarian dances and enables wind orchestras to experience the lively and rousing atmosphere of this traditional music. "Hungarian Dance", Op. 161b, is a fascinating example of how the cultural influences of different countries and traditions can fuse together in music to create something unique and exciting.
