Programme notes: "Wie lieblich schallt durch Feld und Wald des Waldhorns süsser Klang"- a well known tune is the musical starting point. The orchestra is striking it up, then the horn player is rendering the theme, which is paraphrased in proper style by the windwood register. The idyllic and romantic arrangement is very taking. The variations introduced by the orchestra are also standing out for being full of genuine feeling. It is an unadulterated popular wind music lasting in value, which is pursuing the tradition of the idyl and character piece, but - at the same time - making it more demanding and increasing the musical depth. A composition showing how to work up traditional music for wind orchestra in an interesting way as well for the musicians as for the audience, far from the commun place music of the "folk industry". Orchestras for good intermediate grade on will be able to perform this composition successfully, provided that they have a good soloist. This piece of music is suitable for any concert hall as well as for open-air concerts.
