Programme notes: The Viennese court trumpeter Anton Weidinger (1766-1852) was a well-known virtuoso of his time. He constructed the so-called keyed trumpet, which made it possible to play melodies and chromatic passages even in the low tonal range. Weidinger commissions Joseph Haydn with a concert for his keyed trumpet to present the advantages of this instrument to the public. In 1796 Haydn created his last and probably most famous instrumental concerto. The Concerto for Trumpet premiered on March 22, 1800 in Vienna with Anton Weidinger as soloist and made an overwhelming impression on the audience. Quelle/Source: Kliment Musikverlag
