Programme notes: additional text

Silesian history contains many fascinating stories of folk heroes who are remembered for their bravery and sacrifice. One of these heroes is Andres, also known as Ondráš or Ondraszek, born in Janovice in 1680 and died in 1715. His legend not only captured the hearts of Silesians, but also found its way into the world of music, especially through the poignant composition "Andres Dance" by the Czech composer Vladimir Studnicka.

Andres, a 17th-century historical figure, is revered as a folk hero for his resistance to oppression and injustice. His story is closely linked to the social and political circumstances of his time. Andres is often seen as a symbol of Silesian resistance against foreign rule and exploitation. His actions and his courage to sacrifice made him a legend that is still alive in Silesian folklore today.

The composer Vladimir Studnicka has created a moving artistic homage to this Silesian folk hero with his composition “Andres Dance”. The music brings Andres' vibrant personality to life and conveys the feelings of pride, defiance and freedom associated with his name. The tune captures Andres' lively dance moves and fierce energy, taking listeners on a sonic journey through Silesian history.

The composition "Andres Dance" is characterized by traditional Silesian melodies and rhythms that merge with contemporary musical elements. Their festive sounds of wind instruments reflect the lively atmosphere of folk dances, while the dramatic crescendos and decrescendos symbolize the highs and lows of Andres' struggle. Studnicka's masterful use of harmonies and rhythms creates a sonic narrative that allows Andres' legend to live on in the musical world.

"Andres Dance" is not only a musical tribute, but also a cultural heritage that preserves the history and spirit of Andres of Janovice. The composition contributes to preserving the memory of this Silesian folk hero and underlining his importance for local identity. Through the power of music, Andres' legacy will be carried through generations, honoring the sacrifices and courage of this brave man.
